The
Enso Series
For
years I have explored the gap at the horizon line – a
strip of ether that resides between material and space.
To me this gap is where spirit, muse, inspiration,
imagination dwell. It is the mystical combining of
animation and inanimation, of physical and non-physical,
thought and no-thought. I watched as over time my horizon
lines began to bend more and more dramatically until
they had curved all the way into circles. It was then
that I discovered something that had been there all
along: the Enso, a Zen meditation art form. My artwork
has always been a meditation, so I find it fitting
that this simple, profound image was born from meditation.
Just
in Being, we contribute to our world. When we work
to elevate our Being, we also elevate our contribution.
When we bring consciousness to Being, we elevate consciousness
to all things. The
Enso Series,
as are all my works, are meditations captured in space
and time.
The
way steel and acid and rust decipher the Enso provides
a unique articulation of the aesthetic of its origins.
I recognize a power in accepting ‘what is’,
in being vulnerable and honest. These works are ragged
and raw as they intimately blend natural objects and
processes through asymmetry, simplicity, economy, austerity
and modesty. The result is a subtly refined poignancy.
